Safe and Active Project
Safe and Active Travel Award Programme
This year we will be working with Road Safety Education to take part in the Safe and Active Travel Award Programme.
By taking part in this programme our children will take part in road safety sessions, we have priority booking for Bikeability (cycling awareness courses) for the children in Key Stage 2. The programme will also focus on how we can make the area around our school site safer for our children.
Aims of The Project
To improve children’s basic road safety awareness and develop knowledge of safe behaviours by:
• Recognising roads are for traffic; pavements are for people.
• Recognise features of their local roads and identify people that can help them to cross the road.
• Recognise safe and unsafe places to walk and to cross the road.
• Know that they must stop before the kerb and look and listen carefully before crossing.
• Recognise safe places to play.
• Understand and follow the principles of the Warwickshire Road Safety Code - Think, Stop, Look and Listen, Think, Cross Safely.
• Develop the knowledge and skills to identify the safest route to school.
• Know how to travel safely to and from school and beyond. To support and encourage parents to influence and develop the safety awareness skills of their children. To encourage pupils to walk and cycle where these are both appropriate and safe. To embed a holistic approach working in partnership with the school, wider community and partner organisations
