We have a very exciting term planned for the children. Our main topic during this term is Vikings and Anglo Saxons and our art, history, geography, music and DT will all we linked to this area of study. In Science we will be learning about light. We will learn about how shadows are formed and test which materials make good reflectors. In ICT we will be learning about the importance of e safety and looking at how to do simple programming. PSHE will help us to set goals for ourselves and look at how to be responsible members of the school and in RE we will be looking at why the Bible is important today. Children will also have the opportunity to work with County Music teachers.

Our topics will support our English studies, which will include writing adverts, non chronological reports, adventure stories, character and setting descriptions and recounts. We will have dedicated reading, spelling and handwriting time throughout the week.

In maths, we will focus on place value, addition and subtraction. Children will also begin to earn badges for times tables they have learnt. Children are expected to know all their times tables by the end of year 4.

Throughout the term we will be sharing the children’s work with you via Class Dojo.

PE

PE lessons will be on Wednesday therefore children should come to school wearing their PE kit.

PE kit is: plain coloured t shirt (green, red or blue depending on your child’s house team), school blue sweatshirt, white shorts or track suit bottoms, depending on the weather.

Swimming lessons will be on Monday mornings at 10am. Children will swim for half a term at a time, with the parallel class going in the second half term. We are awaiting the reopening of the pool and will keep you posted regarding when this will start.

How You Can Help Your Child At Home

Spellings

These will be set on a Friday, for testing the following Friday. The lists will be put on Class Dojo.

Maths homework

Children will be expected to spend time every week learning their times tables. Those children with good times table knowledge have a definite advantage in different areas of maths too.

Reading

Reading with your child each day and asking them questions about the texts that they are reading. Children need to read a variety of texts – newspapers, blogs, recipes, instructions etc. Please make sure children are still reading to you, and not just to themselves, so that unfamiliar vocabulary can be discussed. This year we will be using online reading diaries. Information about these and logins will be coming home soon.

Handle with Care

If your family is experiencing difficulties at home, we would like to provide additional support at school. We understand that you are not always able to share details and that is okay. If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning, or weekend, please send us or Miss Longworth a message stating ‘Handle with Care’ on Class Dojo. Nothing else will be said or asked. This will let us know that your child may need extra time, patience or help during the day.
