Kingfisher and Robin

Welcome to Kingfisher and Robin Class Pages

Kingfisher Class teachers are Mrs Price (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) and Mrs Pittatrello (Thursday and Friday)

Robin Class teacher is Mrs Gardner

We have a very exciting term planned for the children. Our topic during this term is The Rainforest.

Through this topic the children will be taught about the continents of the world and where the Rainforests are, the different layers of the Rainforest and the animals and plants that live and grow there. We will also be learning about the impact of deforestation on the Rainforest. In science we will be learning about the human body, focusing on the digestive system and teeth.

Our topics will support our English studies, which will include report writing, setting description and persuasive writing.

In maths, we will focus on place value and the four written methods. However, we will continue to have a big focus on our times tables and would really like the children to keep practising this at home.

Throughout the term we will be sharing the children’s work with you via Class Dojo. Our main class rewards this year will be via our class Dojo points so please keep an eye on these. The children are very excited about the rewards they are working towards!

PE

PE lessons will be on Wednesdays therefore children should come to school wearing their PE kit.

PE kit is: plain coloured t shirt (green, red or blue depending on your child’s house team), school blue sweatshirt, white shorts or track suit bottoms, depending on the weather.

Swimming lessons will be alternated every half term. This half term Kingfishers class will be swimming first. They will be swimming on a Friday at 11.30am. As this does impact on their lunch hour slightly, they will be given some additional time at the end of lunch.

Swimming Dates for This Term:

Kingfisher Class- 8th October, 15th October, 22nd October, 5th November and 12th November

Robin Class- 19th November, 26th November, 3rd December, 10th December and 17th December

Handwriting

In year 4 we expect all children to write in a consistent, neat cursive style. The children will either write in pencil or handwriting pen, depending on if they If they have earnt their pen licence. We will give out pen licences every half term to children. If you wish to practise this style at home, then please log in to the Letter join website where you will find lots of handwriting activities. This will be uploaded onto the class dojo page.

Relationships and Sex Education

The children will continue to have their regular PSHE lessons once a week. In the Summer Term, they will be learning about puberty and how their bodies change. We will send more information about this nearer the time.

How You Can Help Your Child At Home

Spelling

The children will be taught spelling throughout the week as part of their guided reading but will also have a spelling lesson on Fridays. In this lesson the children will be tested and given their spelling homework for the following week. These spellings will on be put on Class Dojo too by their teacher for Guided Reading.

Maths Homework

Children are expected to practise their times tables regularly, which are tested three times per week.  Children should be aware of which times table they are focusing on, in accordance with their regular times table assessments in class.

It is vitally important that year 4 children are confident in their times tables up to 12x12 by the end of year 4, as they will be undertaking the Y4 Timetable Assessment in the Summer Term.

Reading

Please ensure your child is reading five times a week for fifteen minutes and that this is logged in their reading diary. We will be moving to an online reading diary and will send out details shortly about this. Reading with your child and asking them questions about the texts that they are reading is extremely important to ensure a secure understanding of the text. Children will be given the opportunity to quiz their AR reading books in class. Children also need to read a variety of texts– newspapers, blogs, recipes, instructions etc, this will give them a broad range of texts and help them understand different language used.

Handle with Care If your family is experiencing difficulties at home, we would like to provide additional support at school. We understand that you are not always able to share details and that is okay. If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning, or weekend, please send us or Miss Longworth a message stating ‘Handle with Care’ on Class Dojo. Nothing else will be said or asked. This will let us know that your child may need extra time, patience or help during the day.
